ARCHIE MAYS

2019 ALL-STAR LEGEND AWARD RECIPIENT

Archie Mays developed into a super high school basketball player while at Fairview, averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds in his senior season. He was considered as one of the top college prospects in the area because of his versatility (attracting attention from colleges from across the country). Mays was a two-time, Journal Herald Area All-Star, 1st Team All-City and Dayton Daily News-Coaches All Greater Dayton selection. He was also an exceptional student in the class room, carrying a 3.4 accumulative grade point average and president of his senior class. Throughout his recruiting process he constantly reminded college coaches of his desire of becoming a medical doctor like his father. The University of Iowa is where he decided to continue his education and athletic career. After suffering a knee injury that ended his career, he left Iowa for Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas. He completed his medical school requirements in 1985 and is now specializing in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery in Long Beach, California.
